CD Players

The disc has not disappeared. Many of the most important recordings released in the last forty years live on Red Book CD and SACD masters, and the customers who built libraries through the format are not interested in re-buying the same music as files. Alma carries reference disc playback for the listener who still spins silver and wants the format taken seriously.

Three brands anchor the category. Accuphase builds the DP-770 and DP-1000 SACD transports and players that represent the modern continuation of the Japanese reference tradition — built, like all Accuphase, to be serviceable for decades. Accustic Arts from Lauffen, Germany builds CD/SACD transports paired with their tube and solid-state DACs, including the Player I MK4 and Reference Player. Bricasti Design's M5 CD/SACD transport feeds directly into their M21 Platinum DAC over AES/EBU for a two-box reference solution. For the customer with a serious physical media library and a system that deserves better than a budget transport, this category is real and well-served.
