The PS-1250 is the higher-capacity Accuphase clean power supply — a 1,200 VA active AC regenerator sized for full reference-grade systems where amplifier current draw exceeds what the 500 VA PS-550 can serve. Like its smaller sibling, the PS-1250 rebuilds the mains waveform into a 0.08 %-distortion sine wave with voltage held stable at the unit's rated output.

2.4 times the capacity of the PS-550. A Class A power amplifier idles at a substantial fraction of its rated output power even with no signal present — that is the cost of Class A operation. An A-80 stereo power amplifier, an A-48S, or a pair of A-300 monoblocks all draw meaningfully more current than a Class A/B amplifier of comparable rated output. The PS-1250 is sized for systems where the amplification chain is the dominant current draw and where the PS-550's 500 VA headroom would not be sufficient to avoid sagging during peak transients.

Active regeneration, voltage correction, instrumentation-grade monitoring. The PS-1250 carries the same active-regeneration topology as the PS-550 — full waveform reconstruction, real-time voltage correction, and the row of front-panel meters showing input and output waveforms, power consumption, voltage, and total harmonic distortion side by side. The output is held to 0.08 % THD regardless of how distorted the incoming mains is.

Construction. Large high-efficiency toroidal transformer (sized for the 1,200 VA capacity), generously dimensioned filtering capacitors, high-sensitivity protection circuitry, machined-aluminum chassis with brushed-gold faceplate, high-carbon cast-iron isolator feet. The chassis is heavier and physically larger than the PS-550 to accommodate the larger transformer and capacitor bank.

Sizing notes. For a complete reference Accuphase system — C-3900S preamplifier, A-300 monoblocks, DP-1000 transport, DC-1000 DAC, plus a streamer or server — the PS-1250 is the appropriate clean power supply. For mid-power systems built around an integrated amplifier and source, the smaller PS-550 is sufficient.
