Alma in Stereo — Saturday, May 30
This Saturday, May 30, both showrooms open their doors at the same hour for an afternoon of turntables, records, and unhurried listening. From 2 to 6 PM, Alma West in San Diego and Alma East in Sterling will be in stereo — coast to coast.
The afternoon is anchored by two turntable makers approaching the same craft from very different traditions. Thorens has been refining the belt-drive since 1883 — the kind of pedigree that doesn’t need to announce itself. Thales is the Swiss boutique whose tonearm geometry quietly rewrote what’s possible at the high end — a small house whose ideas the rest of the industry is still catching up to.
Carrying the signal: Von Schweikert loudspeakers — American-built, hand-tuned, designed to disappear and leave only the music.
Spinning throughout: MoFi (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab) pressings — the records made for systems like these.
At Alma West, two special guests join the afternoon. Damon Von Schweikert will be there to present the new Ultra 7 loudspeakers — the kind of system most people only ever read about. And Lenny Mayeux from MoFi will be at the turntable all afternoon, cueing records.
RSVPs are appreciated. They allow us to prepare the systems, pull records, and reserve seating.
