Yamaha R-N1000A Network Receiver

Yamaha has been building instruments and tuning concert halls since 1887, and that obsession with acoustic truth runs straight through the R-N1000A. This is a 100-watt stereo receiver that doesn't apologize for caring about the fundamentals: a rigidly symmetrical amplifier circuit, an ESS SABRE ES9080Q 384kHz/32-bit DAC running DSD 11.2 MHz natively, and a chassis engineered from the ground up to kill resonance before it can color the sound. At under $1,800, it goes toe-to-toe with separates that cost considerably more.

The network half is equally serious. MusicCast gives you multi-room audio with Amazon Music HD, Spotify, and Apple Music via AirPlay 2. The unit is Roon Tested, meaning Yamaha worked directly with Roon Labs to certify the integration — not a checkbox, a genuine collaboration. HDMI ARC handles TV audio over a single cable. There's a USB Type-B input for direct DAC duty from a computer, two optical and one coaxial digital input, and a phono stage for vinyl. Pure Direct mode cuts the shortest possible circuit path to your speakers, bypassing the buffer amp and all tone controls when you want nothing between the source and the driver stage.

YPAO™ R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) handles room correction automatically at up to 192kHz/64-bit resolution — useful for anyone who doesn't have an acoustically perfect listening room, which is most of us. The double-bottom chassis, 1mm iron damping plate, and anti-resonance feet address vibration mechanically, so the electronics don't have to compensate for what the cabinet is doing.
