The EMT 909 is the 9-inch professional tonearm — the shorter sibling of the 912, designed for a removable Tondose broadcast cartridge and configurable for two other headshell standards.

The construction is the current EMT tonearm program in its most compact form: over 150 individual parts machined from solid, stainless-steel base and aluminum-alloy moving elements, assembled by hand at the Swiss workbench. The bearing hardware is contemporary; the design vocabulary — the way the arm addresses the record, the way mass distributes around the pivot — is the EMT reference the company has held to since the 927 and 930 studio decks.

Effective mass is 10.3 grams. Effective length is 246.75 mm. Offset 22.25 degrees, overhang 16.75 mm, null points 120.9 and 66.04 mm.

Three mount options are offered. Standard accepts the EMT Tondose directly — the fastest path for a listener building an all-EMT front end. INT accepts an Ortofon A-compatible cartridge. X accepts an SME-compatible headshell. Each mount is available with the standard 20-centimetre wire outlet or a 5-pin DIN.

Paired with the 928 II, the 909 in Standard mount and a TSD or TMD Tondose is the closest a home system can get to the analog front end an EMT broadcast studio would have run.
