The EMT 912 is the 12-inch professional tonearm — built for the EMT Tondose broadcast cartridges, and optionally configured for the two other headshell standards that historically served the same broadcast facilities.

What separates the professional from the hi-fi variant is the headshell interface. Where the 912-HI carries a fixed hi-fi cartridge, the 912 is designed for a removable Tondose or its equivalent — the mounting that let a broadcast engineer swap a stereo generator for a mono generator, a fresh diamond for a worn one, without disturbing the arm. This is the geometry EMT drew for the 927 and 930 studio turntables, brought forward into a current tonearm that keeps the mechanical discipline the mount was drawn for.

The arm is assembled from more than 150 hand-machined parts. Stainless steel base, aluminum-alloy moving elements. Effective mass 11.7 grams. Offset 17.55 degrees, overhang 13.15 mm, null points 120.9 and 66.04 mm. Effective length is 310.15 mm in the Standard and INT mount configurations; the X mount configuration, which places the SME-standard bayonet at a different geometric position, sets effective length to 328.32 mm.

Three mount options are offered. Standard receives the EMT Tondose directly. INT accepts an Ortofon A-compatible cartridge. X accepts an SME-compatible headshell. Each is available with either the standard 20-centimetre wire outlet or a 5-pin DIN outlet. Configure the arm to the cartridges already in the collection — or to the EMT Tondose lineup Alma carries: TSD, TMD, and TND, all offered with the matching connection.
