Neat Acoustics has built loudspeakers in Barnard Castle, County Durham since 1989. The first product Bob Surgeoner made was the Neat Petite. It went into full production in 1991, and by 1993 the company had become a full-time loudspeaker manufacturer. The Petite Classic is the current form of that speaker.
It is a compact standmount, and its brief has not changed in three decades: a full and natural sound from a small, well-proportioned cabinet. The cabinet measures 30 cm tall and 20 cm wide. Neat quotes a frequency response of 35 Hz to 22 kHz, which is a long way down for that volume.
Impedance is 6 ohms nominal with a 4 ohm minimum, and the recommended amplifier range is 25 to 150 watts. The tuning work goes into timing and coherence — how the speaker holds the relationship between instruments rather than how much detail it extracts from any one of them.
Hand built in the north of England and voiced by ear. Stands are not included.
