The TND 065 is the Tondose broadcast cartridge for shellac 78-rpm records — a true mono generator with a 65-micron spherical stylus, sized for the normal-groove archive that preceded the microgroove LP.
A 78 needs a cartridge built for it. The groove is cut coarsely by modern standards, and a modern microgroove stylus in that groove will neither track it correctly nor retrieve the recording at anything like the fidelity the master carried. The 65-micron SPH is the correct profile for the shellac normal groove — the contact patch sits where the cutter drew it, and the cartridge reads the modulation the record was manufactured to deliver.
The generator is a true mono moving-coil, single-channel output — the same discipline that makes the TMD 015 and TMD 025 quieter than a summed stereo cartridge on mono LPs, applied here to the earlier 78-rpm archive. The cantilever is aluminium. The body is the 2020-revision solid-magnesium Tondose.
Output transfer level is 0.21 mV/cm. Coil impedance is 24 Ω. Tracking force is 2.5 grams. Weight is 17.5 grams. Frequency response is 20 to 16,000 Hz — the ceiling of the shellac medium itself, delivered.
Three mount options: EMT Standard, INT, X.
