Neat Acoustics builds loudspeakers by hand in Barnard Castle, County Durham. Bob Surgeoner founded the company in 1989. He was a performing and recording musician for more than twenty years before he designed speakers, and Neat's designs are finished by ear rather than by measurement alone.
The Majistra is a standmount that blends ideas from the Ministra and the flagship Ultimatum XLS. A 60 mm true ribbon tweeter sits above twin 170 mm bass/midrange drivers arranged isobarically — two drivers working as a coupled pair, which is how a 38 cm cabinet is quoted down to 25 Hz with control rather than bloom.
The front baffle is decoupled from the cabinet, the crossover is minimal, and the internal connections are hand-wired. Neat quotes a frequency response of 25 Hz to 40 kHz and an impedance of 4 ohms, with a recommended amplifier range of 25 to 100 watts.
The footprint is 22 by 29 cm. It is a large standmount rather than a shelf speaker, and it needs proper stands. Stands are not included.
Hand-built and tuned by ear in the north of England.
