Neat Acoustics has built loudspeakers in Barnard Castle, County Durham since 1989. Bob Surgeoner founded the company as a hi-fi shop and moved it to full-time manufacture in 1993. Measurements inform the designs; the final judgement is made by ear.
The Orkestra draws on the Ekstra and the flagship Ultimatum XL6. A 75 mm true ribbon tweeter works with three 170 mm drive units in a 2.5-way layout, split across two sections of the cabinet. The upper section is a sealed two-way loudspeaker in its own right. The lower section holds two isobarically arranged bass drivers acting as an integrated subwoofer.
That arrangement is why a cabinet 22 cm wide and 24 cm deep is quoted from 20 Hz. The crossover is minimal and the connections are hand-wired. Impedance is 8 ohms and the recommended amplifier range is 25 to 150 watts.
The Orkestra ships with Neat Feet, the support system Neat uses across much of its range. Neat supplies spikes for carpet and adjustable feet for hard floors.
Hi-Fi+ named the Orkestra its Floorstanding Loudspeaker of the Year.
