QUAD Elegan 1 Bookshelf Loudspeakers

The QUAD Elegan 1 is a two-way bass reflex loudspeaker for stand mounting. It is the compact model in the Elegan series, designed for smaller listening rooms, apartments and dedicated two-channel systems.

Drivers and crossover

A 165 mm woven Kevlar cone covers bass and midrange. The cone is lattice-woven Kevlar treated with a self-damping resin. QUAD chose the material for its low mass, rigidity and controlled self-damping. The 25 mm fabric dome tweeter sits in a waveguide that controls dispersion to keep tonal balance consistent across a wide listening area. A Linkwitz-Riley crossover joins the two drivers at 2.9 kHz.

Cabinet

The cabinet is high-density MDF with internal bracing placed to reduce resonance, and it has an internal volume of 15.5 litres. The rear port uses QUAD's Airflow bass reflex design, with a profiled shape that reduces turbulence. QUAD rates bass extension at 44 Hz (-6 dB).

Setup

The Elegan 1 is intended mainly for stands and can also sit on a sturdy shelf or wall unit. Protective feet are included. Sensitivity is 86 dB, and QUAD recommends 30 to 150 watts of amplifier power.

Finishes

Two finishes are offered: matte black, or real walnut veneer with a matte black front baffle. The styling follows the design of QUAD's current electronics.
