Trilogy 906i Phono Stage

The 906i brings as much of the 907's technology as possible to a lower price point. The signal path is free of cheap, off-the-shelf op-amp integrated circuits: the gain stages are single ended Class A and fully discrete, and each component was chosen for its audio performance alone. The high bandwidth, low distortion topology uses active current sources and cascode gain blocks with zero global feedback. RIAA equalisation is passive, implemented with precision components, and a DC servo removes the need for large value output capacitors.

The integral power supply is a low noise linear design with a custom transformer and quality branded reservoir capacitors — no switching wall-wart. The supply rails are shunt regulated. The component count is higher than the inexpensive series regulator IC usually found at this level, and the performance is far superior for it.

Settings for moving magnet or moving coil gain and comprehensive cartridge loading are accessed by configuration switches on the base. Gain is switchable between 40 dB and 60 dB, input impedance is user adjustable from 47 kohms, and input capacitance is user adjustable from 100 pF. Frequency response tracks the RIAA curve from 20 Hz to 20 kHz within a quarter of a decibel. The 906i is hand made exclusively in England, with solid bespoke casework finished to the same standard as the rest of the range.
