Vinnie Rossi CANTA Phono Preamplifier

The CANTA Phono Preamplifier is a dual-mono phono stage for moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, with balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs and outputs. It is part of CANTA, a new series of components from Vinnie Rossi.

Circuit and power supply

The input stage is fully discrete: a custom Belleson JFET “YZ” balanced stage, of transconductance/transimpedance design, built for very low noise and distortion across a wide bandwidth. Left and right channels have independent circuitry to maximize channel separation. The power supply uses patented Belleson super-regulator technology.

Cartridge setup and filtering

Gain and cartridge loading are selectable for a wide range of MM and MC cartridges. They are adjusted through a high-resolution display, and settings stay in memory even when the unit is disconnected from AC mains. A switchable subsonic filter reduces low-frequency energy from warped records, bearing rumble and structural vibration, and limits loudspeaker cone excursion when engaged.

Chassis

The chassis is CNC machined from a solid block of aluminum for rigidity, resonance control, shielding and grounding. The front panel uses Swiss rotary encoders, and the unit ships in an airtight, waterproof hard case.
