At the core is a 623 VA toroidal transformer paired with a high-current power supply engineered to deliver real dynamic headroom beyond the rated 100 watts per channel. The high dynamic power specification — 120W into 8Ω, 200W into 4Ω, and 300W into 2Ω — tells the practical story: when your speakers demand a transient that exceeds steady-state power, the A-S3200 supplies it rather than compressing it. A damping factor of 250 or better at 1 kHz means the amplifier exercises precise control over woofer motion, which translates directly into tighter, more articulate bass. The extended frequency response, flat to within 0.3 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and usable to 100 kHz at −3 dB, preserves the phase relationships between fundamentals and harmonics that determine whether a system sounds like musicians or like a reproduction of musicians.
The discrete phono stage — separate MC head amp and MM/MC equalizer amp, both fully transistor-based with no integrated circuits in the signal path — handles the full range of modern cartridges at a level that stands alone in integrated amplifiers at this price. A front-panel headphone amplifier with its own discrete fully balanced output circuit and trim control brings the same topology to private listening. The A-S3200 is a Japanese precision instrument that takes its brief from the concert hall, not the spec sheet — and then happens to measure exceptionally well.
Fully Balanced Differential Circuit. The signal path runs balanced from input to output terminals — not balanced at the connectors with single-ended internals. The differential topology cancels even-order distortion components by symmetry, which is why the balanced inputs achieve a 114 dB signal-to-noise ratio versus 110 dB on the single-ended inputs.
623 VA Toroidal Transformer, High Dynamic Power. The large toroidal power supply defines how the amplifier handles real music, where transients routinely demand multiples of the average power. Rated at 100W × 2 into 8Ω, the A-S3200 swings to 200W into 4Ω and 300W into 2Ω dynamically — current reserve that translates into the natural dynamic contrast that makes live music feel live.
Discrete Phono Stage — MM and MC. A dedicated MC head amp feeds a discrete equalizer amp, both transistor-based with no op-amps in the signal chain. The result is a phono stage that brings out what the cartridge was designed to deliver: RIAA equalization within ±0.5 dB, MC noise floor at 90 dB S/N, MM at 96 dB. Most integrated amplifiers at this price treat the phono stage as a checkbox; Yamaha treats it as a separate instrument.
Balanced Headphone Amplifier. The front-panel ¼" headphone output connects to its own discrete fully balanced amplifier with a trim control — not a tap off the speaker output, not a chip amp. The same differential topology that defines the speaker output stage applies to headphone listening.
Two Pairs of Balanced XLR Inputs. Each balanced input pair includes independent phase-inversion and 6 dB attenuation switches, allowing the A-S3200 to interface correctly with source components regardless of absolute phase or output level. Combined with five unbalanced RCA inputs, a Main In direct power-amp path, and Pre Out, the connectivity is genuinely comprehensive without being cluttered.
Pure Brass Binding Posts, Two Speaker Pairs. The speaker terminals are machined from pure brass — mechanically solid and electrically clean — and accommodate two pairs of loudspeakers simultaneously, individually selectable or in combination for bi-amping configurations.
