Yamaha has spent over a century studying how music sounds at its source — tuning concert halls, building instruments, and engineering acoustics with a precision that most electronics manufacturers can only approximate. The MusicCast VINYL 500 channels that heritage into something genuinely new: a serious belt-drive turntable that streams your records wirelessly to any room in the house, without a receiver sitting in between. It is not a gimmick dressed up as a turntable. The mechanical foundation is sound — static-balance straight tonearm, aluminium die-cast platter, DC motor isolated from the audio path via belt drive — and the wireless capability is layered on top, not the other way around.

The built-in phono stage handles RIAA equalization on board, so the line-level output is clean and ready for any amplifier or powered speaker without an outboard preamp. When you want to go wireless, the MusicCast VINYL 500 connects over 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and streams the vinyl signal — digitized at up to 44.1 kHz — to any MusicCast speaker or component in your network. AirPlay and Bluetooth (aptX-class SBC/AAC) extend compatibility further. It also pulls double duty as a network streamer for local FLAC, WAV, AIFF, and DSD files, as well as streaming services. One box covers the turntable, the phono preamp, and the network endpoint.

At $699.95, the MusicCast VINYL 500 sits at the intersection of genuine analog credibility and modern convenience. It is the answer to a real question: how do you set up a vinyl source in a room that has no rack, no receiver, and no desire to run interconnects across the floor? Yamaha's answer is to build a turntable worth listening to and give it the connectivity to go anywhere.

Belt Drive, DC Motor. The motor sits off the platter and drives via a belt, decoupling its mechanical and electrical vibration from the audio path — the straightest route to a quiet noise floor on vinyl.

Static-Balance Straight Tonearm. A 223.5 mm effective-length straight arm with an adjustable counterweight and 0–4 g stylus pressure range. Included MM cartridge (5 g, 2.5 mV output) is pre-mounted and aligned; upgrade is straightforward for any cartridge weighing 15.5–19 g including headshell.

Built-In Phono Preamp, Switchable. On-board RIAA equalization means you can drive any line-level input directly. Bypass the preamp via the rear PHONO output if your amplifier has its own phono stage — both options are live simultaneously.

Wi-Fi Streaming, No Receiver Required. The VINYL 500 connects to your 2.4 or 5 GHz network and streams vinyl playback — plus local hi-res files (FLAC/WAV/AIFF up to 192 kHz / 24-bit, DSD up to 11.2 MHz) and music services — to any MusicCast speaker. AirPlay adds Apple device compatibility. Bluetooth 4.2 with SBC/AAC covers headphones and portable speakers up to 32 feet away.

Aluminium Die-Cast Platter. The 30 cm aluminium platter adds mass and rigidity, damping resonances that lighter plastic platters transmit directly into the stylus. More mass means more rotational stability through the full side of a record.

DAC Performance. When streaming over the network, the onboard DAC delivers 110 dB S/N ratio (IHF-A), 100 dB dynamic range, and 0.003% THD at 44.1 kHz — measurements that would be noteworthy in a dedicated network streamer at this price.
