The EMT 909-HI is the 9-inch tonearm at the centre of the EMT hi-fi program — the arm the 928 II is prepared for out of the box, and the arm most listeners will pair with a JSD, HSD, or HMD cartridge.
The engineering follows the same rules as its 12-inch sibling: over 150 individual parts, machined from solid stainless steel and aluminum-alloy blanks, assembled by hand in Switzerland. Modern bearings; a design vocabulary that traces back to the EMT reference of decades ago. The headshell is rigidly fixed — no removable slide, no additional contacts between the cartridge and the tonearm cable — with azimuth adjustment retained for careful setup.
Effective length is 246.75 mm. Effective mass is 10.2 grams. Offset is 22.25 degrees, overhang 16.75 mm, null points 120.9 and 66.04 mm. The arm accommodates any EMT hi-fi cartridge in the 10-to-25-gram tracking range.
Two termination options are offered: the standard wire outlet with a 20-centimetre lead, or a 5-pin DIN outlet. The choice comes down to the phono cabling scheme the customer already runs.
Paired with the 928 II, or fitted to a compatible high-end turntable already in the room, the 909-HI is the shortest path to a reference EMT front end.
