EMT TMD 025 Cartridge

The TMD 025 is a true mono Tondose broadcast cartridge with a 25-micron spherical stylus — the profile sized for the earlier mono LP archive, where the groove was cut wider than the microgroove standard modern mono LPs use.

A cartridge with the correct tip radius for the groove it is asked to track is a quieter cartridge on that record than one with a mismatched profile. The 25-micron SPH sits on the earlier-generation mono groove where it was designed to sit — the contact patch is right, the surface noise reads correctly, and the signal is retrieved without the added distortion a too-small stylus produces at the groove walls.

The generator is a true mono moving-coil design, single-channel output. The cantilever is aluminium. The body is the 2020-revision solid-magnesium Tondose.

Output transfer level is 0.21 mV/cm. Coil impedance is 24 Ω. Recommended load is 200 to 300 ohms. Tracking force is 2.5 grams. Weight is 17.5 grams. Frequency response is 20 to 18,000 Hz.
