Neat Acoustics has built loudspeakers in Barnard Castle, County Durham since 1989. Bob Surgeoner founded the company as a hi-fi shop, moved it to full-time loudspeaker manufacture in 1993, and has designed for it since. Measurements inform the work; the final judgement is made by ear.
The Momentum J6 is a 2.5-way floorstander built around isobaric bass loading. The upper section is sealed and holds the AMT tweeter with an R3 bass/midrange driver. The lower chamber holds twin 170 mm downward-firing units in isobaric configuration, which is where the low-frequency extension and control come from.
The J6 stands on a solid plinth base derived from the Ultimatum design. The plinth provides acoustic grounding and mechanical stability, and its contribution is audible as stereo precision and timing rather than as tone. As with every Neat loudspeaker, the crossover is hard-wired with components chosen through extended listening.
Neat quotes 22 Hz to 45 kHz (AIRR, −6 dB) from a cabinet 105 cm tall and 22 cm wide. Impedance is 8 ohms nominal with a 5 ohm minimum, and the recommended amplifier range is 25 to 200 watts.
Six finishes: Black Oak, Natural Oak, American Walnut, Satin White, Gloss Ebony Flame and Gloss Ruby Flame. Priced per pair.
