Piega is a Swiss loudspeaker maker that has spent four decades doing one thing better than almost anyone else: building ribbon transducers and mating them to extruded aluminum cabinets that disappear from the music. The company was founded in 1986 on Lake Zurich, and every speaker that wears the Piega badge — from the entry models to the limited-edition flagships — is still assembled by hand in Horgen, Switzerland. The ribbon-tweeter architecture that defines the brand is not borrowed technology. Piega develops and manufactures its own ribbon drivers in-house, including the coaxial ribbon module that places the midrange and treble at a single physical point and resolves the time-alignment problem that conventional two-way and three-way crossovers can only approximate. The cabinets are pulled from a single piece of extruded aircraft-grade aluminum, internally damped with Piega's Tension Improve Module to remove panel resonance before it can color the sound. The result is a presentation that listeners describe in the same vocabulary year after year: fast, clean, dimensionally precise, and free of the boxy signature that almost every traditional cabinet imposes on the music.
The Coax 811 Gen2 is the largest model in the Coax series and the speaker that most directly demonstrates why Piega's coaxial ribbon module is a meaningful engineering advance rather than a marketing line. The C212+ coaxial driver places the ribbon tweeter and ribbon midrange on the same physical axis, eliminating the lobing and phase smear that conventional two-driver arrangements have lived with since the 1950s. Below the coaxial module, two 220 mm UHQD woofers and two 220 mm UHQD passive radiators handle bass with the dynamic authority and low-frequency extension typically associated with much larger speakers. The cabinet is a single extrusion of aircraft-grade aluminum reinforced by Piega's second-generation Tension Improve Module, which pre-stresses the enclosure to push panel resonance well below the audible band. The result is a speaker that combines the imaging precision of a small monitor with the scale, weight, and dynamic ceiling of a true full-range floorstander — a combination that is much rarer than the marketing in this category would suggest.
The Coax 811 Gen2 has been recognized with Stereophile's Recommended Component listing for 2025, The Absolute Sound's Editors' Choice award (2022), and a Golden Ear Award (2018) from Robert Harley. For owners who want the Coax 811 in something beyond the standard aluminum, black, or white finishes, the Coax Excellence program offers eight additional colors hand-finished in Switzerland: Blue Lagoon, Misty Green, Shiny Ash, Desert Gold, Bordeaux Red, Havana Tobacco, Autumn Bronze, and Alpine Stone.
