Piega is a Swiss loudspeaker maker that has spent four decades doing one thing better than almost anyone else: building ribbon transducers and mating them to extruded aluminum cabinets that disappear from the music. The company was founded in 1986 on Lake Zurich, and every speaker that wears the Piega badge — from the entry models to the limited-edition flagships — is still assembled by hand in Horgen, Switzerland. The ribbon-tweeter architecture that defines the brand is not borrowed technology. Piega develops and manufactures its own ribbon drivers in-house, including the coaxial ribbon module that places the midrange and treble at a single physical point and resolves the time-alignment problem that conventional two-way and three-way crossovers can only approximate. The cabinets are pulled from a single piece of extruded aircraft-grade aluminum, internally damped with Piega's Tension Improve Module to remove panel resonance before it can color the sound. The result is a presentation that listeners describe in the same vocabulary year after year: fast, clean, dimensionally precise, and free of the boxy signature that almost every traditional cabinet imposes on the music.
The PS101 is Piega's active bass-reflex subwoofer — the dedicated low-frequency partner for the Premium and AP-series loudspeakers, and a useful addition to any Piega system whose room or cabinet size has placed limits on bass extension. Two 220 mm LDB drivers in a reflex-loaded enclosure are powered by an internal 150-watt RMS / 300-watt peak amplifier, with a frequency response extending to 28 Hz. The control set is the one a serious installer wants: high-pass filter for satellite output (60 / 80 / 100 Hz), continuously variable crossover and level, phase invert, and an auto-on signal-sensing standby. Inputs include line-level RCA stereo, dedicated LFE for AV receiver integration, and high-level binding posts for connection directly to a stereo amplifier's speaker outputs. The PS101 is designed to integrate sonically with Piega's ribbon-based main speakers — fast, articulate, free of the loose, overdamped character that compromises most subs in two-channel music applications.
Sold each. Use one PS101 for traditional placement, or two for symmetric stereo subwoofer integration and reduced room-mode excitation.
